Our site Douglass Media Pte. Ltd. takes a lot of work and money just to maintain and obtaining the images in the first place is very time consuming and costly. We therefore take very seriously all unauthorised usage of our images. Effectively we view it in the same way as walking into someones house and helping yourself. In blunt terms it is outright theft. And worse than that it is the equivalent of stealing someones trade tools.
With the above in context we do take all copyright infringement very seriously. Essentially when our images are used without permission it is taking away from our livelihood, and directly effects the customers who have legitimate usage rights to those images. We therefore enforce our rights throughout the world. Obviously this is a route we would rather avoid as it is a messy, costly and time consuming process. However if you walked in and took a carpenters tools, he would have every right to be upset.
Our images are watermarked and the headers have unique identifiers to aid in identification where required. Obviously we are limited in what we can do to prevent image theft, but we do use all available technologies to protect our collections and aid in prosecutions.
On the other hand we are not a huge evil corporation. So we do understand that there are times and places where money may be an issue. So we are keen to help out where we can and when we think it is worthwhile. For that reason we have tried to keep our prices as affordable and cost effective as possible. There is simply no reason to steal when we have our prices as affordable as possible.
That being said we do try and help out for worthwhile charities and projects where possible. So don't hesitate to ask if you are in doubt.
In summary we try and be reasonable, but for those absolutely determined to break the rules, when we have made things as accessible as possible, then we will use all legal means to recover our lost revenues in addition to using applicable domestic laws for prosecution. This often means civil claims in addition to criminal code fines. Since the revenue from a good stock image according to industry estimates upwards of $100000 over its lifetime. The damages awarded can be substantial. So if in any doubt at all then ask.
Additionally if you see an image that you think may be one of ours and being used improperly, then do let us know. We are more than happy to pay a substantial "finders fee".
