About this website
This website is actually the culmination of many years work, and obviously reflects many of my own interests and pursuits. In addition to filling what was to me an obvious void in the stock photography market.
Perhaps it is easier to explain what you wont find much of here first. That being pictures of girls and couples and all of the usual images. Afterall there are already many good providers of standard industry images, Corbis and Getty, straight off. In addition there is the simple fact that there is no point competing head to head with the Goliaths of the industry.
So the question becomes what does this website provide. And in short that is a value added specialist service. We have thousands of scientific and technical images all correctly identified and described. For example, rather than a picture being labelled, "Blue Parrot" our images include the proper scientific identification, within the limits of what is currently possible and or known.
This is important if your a publisher looking for a specific image. And in general is becoming more important throughout all of the media industry as the public is on the whole much more discerning these days. Attention to detail has become critical in all public spheres. Only recently I was reading how people had picked up on the fact that in the old "Mary Poppins" movie, people were complaining that the American Robin was used in place of a European Robin.
Of course that is pedantic, but the point remains that these days you can no longer get away with a Kookaburra laughing in the jungles of Africa, ala the old Tarzan series. So this website essentially provides exactly what you need.
In our travels about the globe we also come across many unusual places and interesting things, so of course we put what we have up. Still you wont find many of the stock standard images here. Even when it is something iconic, we try and present it in a different way. For example, Big Ben, London. Hopefully sunset on a late autumn day, adds something a bit more unique.
So the site itself has bits of everything, with specialist collections in areas such as birds and plants. For example one of the largest collections of Australian wildflowers among others. Of course getting all of this information online is time consuming and labour intensive. We do however hope the results are worth it and look forward to your business, whether corporate or private.
The website itself has been designed to be as user friendly as possible. No doubt there will be errors and ommisions cropping up from time to time in a project such as this. Let us know if you come across something that is a problem. We welcome all feedback - good and bad. Feel free to browse. And don't forget to register to access all of the sites features.
