The OSIM Singapore International Triathlon is the largest event of its kind in Asia, with thousands of competitors from toddlers through to elite professional athletes from around the world and hundreds of volunteers and of course the Triathlon Association of Singapore staff. For most of those involved it meant an early start on both race days, from about 4am with competitors arriving about 6am, well before the sun was up.
 Volunteers preparing for the day
Getting ready for the day ahead in the Transition Area
 Competitors arriving very early
The Transition area was already filling up as the sun rises over Singapore
It was a very early start for the kids
Of course body marking was needed to keep track of everyone
Of course the trickle of competitors becomes a rush
 With thousands to be done
 And legs also
It wasn't long before they were off
 And moving into the swim
 Boys start of swim event
 And hitting the water
And they were not shy about it
The sun coming out made it even nicer
Plenty of spectators added to the excitement
The racing involved all age groups
 Out in the ocean
Adults ready to start the full course
 Briefing before a start
It wasn't long before the swim was over
 Finishing the swim
 And the bike leg began
 Along flats
 And up gradients
 At high speeds
 And even time for fun
 From the high tech
 Through to low tech
And of course it is thirsty work
 Dismounting to begin the run
The Transition area with thousands of bicycles
 For all ages
 And all abilities
 Lastly the run
 There is lots of running
 Some are very focused
 And not giving up
 Of course drinks are provided
It is very hot and thirsty work
 Eventually you see the finish
 And cross the line
You have just swam, run and biked
 The Hong Kong Boys celebrate
 And the Aussie girls
 Some salute the crowds
Others take a well earned massage |
